Kevin's Story

I always have loved the ocean and the diverse bounty that it provides. I grew up on Bainbridge Island digging for clams, snacking on smoked salmon and listening to my dad and uncles tell stories about their time commercial fishing in Alaska. It was no surprise to anyone, when at 17, I took a job with a family friend to go fishing in Alaska for the summer. It was everything that I imagined and more (well except for the money part that year). The people I worked with traveled and lived interesting lives when they were not at sea, the work was challenging, and I found it rewarding. Alaska took my breath way with its beauty. It was all so wild and exciting.

Over 20 years later, I have not missed a salmon season in Alaska, and I still maintain the same enthusiasm and pride in the environment, the work, the people and the fish that we catch that I did when I was a teenager. It continues to be a career tied to nature and family. Every spring I hop on my uncle’s boat, the Dangerous Cape, to fish for halibut and sablefish in SE Alaska. After which, I head to Bristol Bay where my wife and I own a gillnetter, the Miss Malerie, that we use to harvest wild sockeye. A boat, that one day, I hope to have my sons join me on.

I want to share my experience and passion with people. I want to show that there are still ways in which humans can rely on nature in a sustainable and respectful way. But most of all, I want to share really delicious seafood that is natural, healthy and treated as it should be. I take pride in knowing that when I personally hand you a box of my fish it is as pristine and as delicious as it was when I caught it. Controlling the fish from boat to table gives me this confidence and ensures an unparalleled seafood experience.
